It's a hazy Sunday morning and I am out on the balcony enjoying God's amazing creation....hummingbirds are fliting back and forth among the flowers and a robin's nest filled with sky blue eggs sits beside me (they are ready to hatch at any moment!)...a gentle refreshing breeze brings the scent of petunias and gardenias into the air around me, they weave together like a blanket which entually settles down onto my shoulders, and I simply feel at peace. I feel at home when I am out here. I guess, somewhere deep down, a part of me realizes that this is where God originally intended for all of us to be. Adam and Eve were placed in a garden...there weren't any houses or big screen t.v.'s...there wasn't Facebook or x-box...we were meant to be among His creation. As a matter of fact, God had given Adam the job of naming all of the creatures that live on the earth...and the first couple of all mankind walked around in the beauty of nature carefreee and unencumbered...untouched by sin.
I know that things are very different now, but somewhere deep down, my soul still resonates with nature. I once heard an interesting fact. A renown psychologist said that, "The two colors, blue and green ,each have a peaceful effect on the human psychie...they are relaxing and anxiety dissolving"...So think about that for a moment...We who believe in God, belive that He is eternal and all knowing right?...Right. So, if God chose blue (all of the water and sky in the world) and green (every living plant, grass, tree on the earth) to make up the world that we live in....do you think that it is probable that He did that, knowing what we would eventually do to the earth...knowing that we would create cities and highways and billboards and traintracks that would mar the peaceful surroundings which He had intended for us to live in? Do you not think that he made it possible, that even someone standing overwhelmed in midst of downtown Manhattan (I went to NYU, so I know how this feels!) who was feeling like there was nothing but noise and chaos...feeling ready to scream because there was no where to go to get any peace...that that person could simply look upward into the blue sky, and have a soothing feeling, a quick calm overtake them and settle their spirit? It has been scientifically proven that these colors produce calm in humans.
God provides even and especially in the midst of our rebellion from His plan for us...Even in the chaos that we create, in Him there always is peace!
I am off to worship and pray and read God's word, and then I am going to church. If you are reading this today and you feel stressed out or unsettled...Go outside and look around you, take a deep breath and marvel at what the Lord has created for you ..look into the sky or out at the beautiful trees and flowers and appreciate the environment that He intended to please your spirit and relax your mind. And think of Him...
"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, 'Let there be light', and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and He seperated the light from the darkness. God called the light 'day', and the darkness He called 'night'. And there was evening and there was morning the first day." - Genesis 1:1-3
Funny thing about colors...they exist due to refracted light...God said "let there be light" and there was light...
Many people love to be outside in nature...many have a feeling of peace, but many worship the feeling, or the creation instead of the creator. He made this earth specifically with you in mind. The created things around you were made to make you feel joy and peace...but they were also created to show you who God is, they were meant to point you to back to Him...
